Any idea what these are worth?

I was rummaging around in my parents old storage room today and came across two really old poles and reels.

The first set is a fiberglass 5' medium action rod. The only info on the rod is on the what looks like aluminum part of the handle, and all it says it "GEP-ROD." The bottom part of the handle is cork. As for condition...pretty good shape. The cork looks like it was sealed in the past, and there is some sealant on the very bottom part of the handle, which is aluminum, and a small crack where the rod meets the handle, but I dont think that is a big deal. The rod looks and feels like its very usable. The reel to this rod is a vintage Shakespeare Marhoff 1964, Model GE, and it also says nickel silver, made in the USA. Very functional and smooth.

The second set is also a fiberglass medium action rod, however its 6"3"..its a Model-4243 "Heddon, Lucky 13" also with a cork handle. Condition is pretty good other then some aging near the handle. The reel to this rod is a Pflueger Akron No. 1895 made in the USA. Condition is also very functional and smooth.

Anyone know what they might be worth? I can post some pictures if it would help some

I should correct myself...I dont think they are baitcasters...at least they probably werent called that back then...but it looks similar to one. The second set has no date on it, but I am assuming they are both around the 60s

It doesnt look like it yet. They were biting good at the moose lake T bridge about a week ago but not so much anymore, everyone there is thinking that they're starting to head up to the rivers now. Tyler and I have fished down at the corner here on kettle by my house and have got nothing, and we tried at the Pine over off 41 and havent got anything there either and we tried at the dam at Pine lake in Finlayson. Just no luck anywhere but we're thinking maybe another week or two? I have always heard when the frogs start croaking then thats when their running but its been crazy weather this year. Have you tried anywhere yet?

Haha thanks and for the pictures, I'll get them up tomorrow for sure, my internet is a little slow so its a harder process but Im really curious. Do you know anywhere or anyone that might be able to give a good estimate on these types of things? Id bring it to a pawn shop to see but with my pawning experiences they tend to screw people over on what they'd give

depending on condition looks like $15 up to maybe $30 for great condition

I dont know much about old rods, but the old steel ones are pretty neat.

When my dad bought the cabin he has now, there were several old steel rods with the old baitcasters on them.

Today they are decorations on the walls in the cabin.

I look at those things and wonder how anyone ever got a fish on those things.

I would say hold on to it for another 40 years. Sounds crazy but the stuff isn't worth much now. The old fiberglass rods are still easy to find on auctions and garage sales but there will come a time when some of us will want to see a rod like we caught our first fish on. We'll be pushing 70 but we will want the old hand-me-down back again.
Same with the reels, kind of hard to get a good price now as there alot of old level winds still out there. Now, if you have the cardboard box the reel came in it is a little better.
Check the auction sites and try to buy what you have to sell, look at what is out there and do your homework...

Not everyone gets to be an astronaut when they grow up.

Thanks for the update! Sorry for hyjacking your thread.

Ice season is officially over for this guy....now it's time to focus on the suckers! I heard they were catching a few off the pier in Moose. I'm thinking these couple of 60-70 degree days is going get them started. I am hoping to get out this weekend and check a few spots. Might head down to the Pine and give it a try.

Just tried at the Pine again yesterday evening and didnt land any. It did seem like we had a few nibbles but it was pretty windy and it was like two bobs of the tip and then nothing so we were thinking either wind or something little like a perch if theres that in there? And Tyler tried at the corner by my house again tonight (for those of you who dont know, I live right down the road from the kettle, so thats what Im talking about), and he didnt get anything, but something neat, he said he seen a very big fish surface just ahead of him a bit and it was lightish gray in color, so Im thinking maybe it was a sturgeon. But anyways the pier is Moose was pretty much empty this afternoon so I think they've really slowed down there. Petrys bait shop in finlayson is saying people have caught them under the bridge just north of askov but tried there yesterday evening as well and all we caught was snags and the current was flowing so fast the tip was going nuts so we couldnt tell if there was a sucker on if we wanted to so we just packed up. My cousin said the frogs are croaking up his way near mahtowa though, I havent heard any yet but it should be soon

Thanks for the update! I am guessing they will be running here the next two weeks....if it stays warm. It sure is tough detecting those sucker bites in the wind. Hope to get out this weekend!

Ha! Its funny you mentioned that...I was just fishing down at the river and its pretty windy today and I was having a hard time figuring out if it was the wind or a sucker and I was thinking I was pretty unexperienced if I couldnt tell the difference, so maybe Im not wrong haha, anyways still didnt catch anything. I gotta question about sucker fishing but I'll put it in a diff post. About the pics...for some reason I cant get my memory card to work in either mine or my boyfriends computer so I cant get the pics up of the reels, unless I can track down my usb for my camera and try that way...not sure though. Oh well its not a big deal though
